5 limiting beliefs holding you back from success.

Every one wants success and if you are on my blog, I’m guessing that includes you. You’ve probably dreamt of a financially free life and all the trappings of it.

What you might not know is that one of the things keeping you from success are excuses and limiting beliefs. In fact, one of my favorite quotes is “excuses are the nails that build a house of failure”.   Most humans have a lot of potential, but allow limiting beliefs hold them back from what they are capable of. I am going to share five excuses and limiting beliefs that are probably keeping you broke, or not allowing you to unleash your greatness.

1. I am not worthy enough

This is one of the biggest lies and limiting beliefs sold to us by society and embedded in our subconscious minds by society. We have been sold a false bill of goods that we need others to endorse us, approve of us, anoint us or deem us worthy before we go out and do something amazing.  If you study history, most of the amazing people we look up to, like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, did not wait to be chosen, or deemed worthy. They simply went out there with the vision in their hearts and made it happen. Truth is that if you are using this as an excuse, then you are being selfish. The world is out there waiting for a solution you have. Do not wait to be qualified. Qualify yourself and go do it.  For more on this, check out Seth Godin’s Masterpiece “The Icarus Deception”. Amazing read!

2. I Don’t have enough money or resources

That is another excuse that will get you nowhere. Most people have bought into the idea that they need to have ALL the resources and money laid out before their dream/idea can fly.  If you look at the lives of successful people, they just started out. Napoleon Hill in “Think and grow rich” said that anyone waiting for perfect conditions before they begin will never begin. Successful people know this and simply launch out and build their wings on their way down.  Some of the words greatest companies like Apple and Microsoft were started from Garages, so that should blow this excuse out of the water. Just start it! Jim Rohn (RIP) shares an amazing quote about this- “You do not have to be great to start, but you need to start to be great”.

3. I need to get it all right before I start

This is a variation of limiting belief #2. The thing is that you will never be able to get it all right before you begin. This excuse is a form of “analysis paralysis”. There are people who want to analyze till they drop, and never take a risk and as a result will not achieve or do anything.  Most of the successes we look up to today did not have that mindset. Successful people adopt the mindset of “we will figure out the challenges as they come”. Now I am not saying planning is not good.  But hey, you can only plan so far.  There is a place for planning and a place to just get on with it.

4. I’m too young/old

Elizabeth Holmes is the worlds youngest Billionaire, dropping out of Stanford University in 2003 to start her own blood testing company as is worth 4.6 billion USD. Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook is another story we are familiar with. Now for the old ones,  David Rockefeller Snr is worth 2.5 Billion and is 96 years old.  Walter Haefner is 101 years old as is worth 4.3 billion USD.

The lesson here is that there is nothing about age being a barrier, as there are people of different ages who have done that which you want to do. This is another limiting belief which when you do some critical thinking, does not make sense.

5. Fear of Failure.

This is a very common fear which plagues even the best of us.  People are scared of failure, and of looking bad before friends and family. If your fear of failure is greater than your desire to succeed, then I have news for you, you will never succeed.  So when confronted with fear of failure, you will need to ask yourself, how badly do you want it?

A great quote on fear is “The only thing to fear is fear itself”.

Most people who accomplished great things have failed before. But they were able to get up and forge ahead. Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents of the USA, but he failed at around 11 different endeavors before he became president. General Muhammadu Buhari contested four times before becoming president of Nigeria just recently, enduring a lot of ridicule about his age and capacity (Excuse #4) but he never gave up. One of my mentors Jordan Adler, author of “Beach Money” failed in 11 different MLM companies in 10 years and never  made any significant money or sponsored a single rep, but he crushed it in his 12 MLM company, becoming a rockstar legend in this industry. Successful people know that failure is just part of the learning process, and they embrace it and turn it into fuel for success, and a stepping stone.

So whenever you feel you cannot do it, and when you have that great idea that has been burning inside you, maybe its reaching top rank in your MLM company, or whether its starting your business, writing a book, a blog, etc, and those excuses and limiting beliefs rear their ugly heads, I would like you to come back here and read this over and over, and I am sure it will help you.
